Frequently asked questions about drone protection

Updated:

No. The civilian sale and use of radio jammers is not permitted; their use is reserved for state bodies authorised by law. Legal framework

Can I take down a drone flying over my house?

Not advisable, and it may be unlawful: damaging a drone may qualify as criminal damage, and a falling drone can endanger people. Record the details and, for serious or repeated cases, contact the police.

What should we do if a drone appears over our event?

Confirm the detection, check it isn't an authorised drone, establish its position and, if possible, the pilot's, notify the police, and if it is over the crowd, manage the situation without causing panic. Response plan

Do I need a licence to use a drone detector?

Passive (non-transmitting) sensors – RF, cameras, acoustics – typically need no spectrum licence; radar does. Data protection rules always apply.

Can the system tell me where the pilot is?

Often, yes: for drones broadcasting Remote ID, the pilot's or take-off position can be read, and with several RF sensors the controller's position can be estimated by triangulation. With custom-built drones this isn't always possible.

Can radar tell a drone from a bird?

Drone detection radars can, using the micro-Doppler signature of the rotors – one of the key differences between a good and a weak radar. Always verify it in a site test. Radar

Can detectors see FPV drones?

Only if they cover FPV bands and don't rely solely on known commercial protocols. FPV drones are often custom-built and don't broadcast an ID. FPV drones

Is my company required to install drone protection?

Under Government Decree 211/2025, priority facilities designated by the Defence Council are. Others aren't required to, but risk, insurers and group policies are making it increasingly common. Drone defence plan

Can a security company use a jammer?

No. Security guards' powers in Hungary do not include jamming or downing drones. The security company's job is detection, documentation and notifying the authorities. Detector or jammer?

How much does a counter-drone system cost?

The range is wide: there is an order-of-magnitude difference between a wearable detector and an integrated multi-sensor fixed system. A responsible price isn't possible without a site assessment; after the assessment we provide cost estimates for several options.

What's the difference between drone protection and drone mitigation?

Mitigation, in the narrow sense, means neutralising the drone. Drone protection is broader: risk assessment, detection, identification, procedures and cooperation with the authorities.

Can you organise a field test?

Yes – procurement support can include a field test at your site, organised with manufacturers or distributors, against pre-agreed evaluation criteria.
